Abstract
The actual strain of fiber is different according to its different structures and materials. Consequently the sensing characteristics of intrinsic optical fiber sensor are influenced. The responses of coated and jacketed fiber to temperature were analyzed based on the theory of material mechanics. Finite element models of coated and jacketed fiber were also developed to study the thermal strain distribution rules of fiber. With the same parameters selection, the numerical results are coincident with the theoretical results. In conclusion, the actual strains of coated fiber and jacketed fiber can be calculated based on the formulae deduced, which helps to analyze the temperature response of intrinsic optical fiber sensor accurately.
