Abstract :
In the pilot scale test, three kinds of typical natural solid phase materials, such as cotton, anthracite and walnut shells, were used as biological denitrification carbon sources in the remediation of nitrite contaminated groundwater. The results indicated that when the influent concentration of nitrate was about 30mg/L, the nitrate removal of the reactors with cotton and walnut shells as carbon sources achieved third grade standard of "Quality standard for ground water " (GB14848-1993). But the nitrite removal rate of the reactor with anthracite as carbon source was low, because anthracite did not release adequate organic carbon effectively. The concentration of nitrate in the effluent was higher than 20mg/L.
