Abstract :
Shunt capacitance compensator is the important equipment of power traction system in electrified railway. The series-wound reactor on the compensator is lack of necessary protection against inter-turn fault. The voltage ratio of the capacitor and reactor will change when the fault occurs. With consideration of characteristics of power traction system in electrified railway, this paper proposes a new shunt compensation protection against reactor inter-turn fault based on the voltage ratio. The simulation on ATP and calculation on MATLAB show that the protection against inter-turn fault of reactor, based on voltage ratio, can make correct judgment to this kind of fault quickly. This kind of protection has been applied to a substation in Beijing-Qinhuangdao railway and has run well until now.
