Abstract :
This paper studies the performance of a radio access strategy implementing Joint Radio Resource Management (JRRM) over a complex heterogeneous network composed by several realistic Radio Access Technologies (RATs), which are characterised by overlapping coverage area. In this system, several users equipped with multimode terminals are able to simultaneously connect to the available RATs, and in particular to choose the best one among them thanks to the decision taken by a centralised JRRM entity. The set of applications considered are realistic too. Results obtained via simulation show the JRRM behaviour in terms of macroscopic parameters (like the number of vertical and horizontal handovers) and application-specific performance metrics.
