Abstract
A review of six major research areas in which problems must be solved in order to automate the garment manufacturing industry is given. Ply separation, transport mechanisms, orientation, pick and place, fabric manipulation, and joining are discussed. Some of the research in these areas is outlined, with the emphasis on problems involving assembly costs, quality, and quick response to market demands
