Abstract :
As most of the microwave imaging techniques for breast cancer detection rely on the three-dimensional distribution of the scattered signals, the knowledge of the possible distribution of those scattered signals around the imaged breast is vital to improve the processing techniques, and thus to get an accurate three-dimensional image of the breast. In this paper, a closed form solution is presented for the electromagnetic scattering due to a small tumor inside the breast. Although the tumor is considered to be of ellipsoidal shape, the presented approach can be extended to any other shape. All the possible polarizations of the incident and scattered signals are included in the analysis.
