Abstract :
This paper presents a novel interdigital capacitor (IDC) structure with accurate lumped-element circuit model. The IDC employs slotted ground structures and via holes. The proposed structure is able to eliminate the spurious spikes of conventional IDCs. A novel circuit model for the proposed interdigital capacitor is constructed to predict the characteristics of the left-handed metamaterial (LHM) unit cell integrating the proposed IDC. Simulation and measurement show that the spurious spikes are suppressed and the left-handed (LH) characteristics are well predicted by the proposed circuit model.
