Abstract :
A down/up conversion mixer with built-in oscillator for IEEE 802.11a applications using 0.18μm CMOS technology is proposed in this paper. With the techniques of LO body-grounded and output IF/RF common load, the conversion gain of the designed mixer can be improved not only for down conversion, but also for up conversion. Besides, the up-converted gain is also increased by gm-boosting technique, and the higher linearity of the down-conversion is achieved by using source degeneration in the mixer. Simulation results of the proposed mixer show the down conversion gain of 13.5dB with the IIP3 of -7dBm and the up conversion gain of 6.2dB with the IIP3 of -4.8dBm while consuming 4.37mW and 2.2mW from a 1.8-V supply voltage, respectively. The built-in voltage control oscillator (VCO) exhibits phase noise and output power of -113.6dBc/Hz and -0.9dBm, respectively. The chip size includes PAD is 1.394mm×1.182mm.
