Abstract :
This paper presents a retrospective on the silicon design innovations that have given rise to the high-speed networks that are now commonplace in most of the world. Design techniques that extend the speed capabilities of standard CMOS while maintaining the precision required for optical networks are described. Future trends and challenges in the design of highspeed broadband circuits are also presented.
