Abstract :
During the past few years there has been an increasing interest in applying electrical currents of various forms to neoplasms. The use of electrotherapy for cancer treatment in vivo on experimental tumor models and in clinical practice gained attention of research groups throughout the world. In this report electrotherapy of neoplasms by direct current is briefly reviewed with respect to treatment procedures and parameters. Recent results of the authors employing direct current in the range of mA suggest several distinct mechanisms which are involved in the observed tumor growth retardation with respect to electrode configuration used, current polarity and intensity.
