Abstract
A three-dimensional computer model of the human thorax with heart and lungs in-homogenieties was constructed. It consisted of 15829 nodes and 4480 second-order elements, and included two catheter electrodes in the heart region and a subcutaneous patch electrode. The finite element technique was employed to compute the electric field distributions for typical electrode configurations. The model provides data on potential and current distributions and can be used to examine optimal electrode configurations.
