            Abstract :
The purpose of the method described in this paper is determination of an estimate for the number of fibers in a peripheral nerve, which have conduction velo- cities within a given range without the need for a biopsy. Its use is restricted to the relatively strong myelinated fibers, which can be electrically stimulated. It is applicable mainly to sensory nerves; for mixed nerves it can be used only if interference by concurrently excited myopotentials can be kept low.
