Abstract :
Due to the rapid increase of wireless services below 6 GHz, multi-band multi-mode wireless terminals are becoming popular. In this paper, up/down-conversion schemes are reviewed, in addition the pros and cons are discussed. At the present, direct conversion scheme is the most appropriate for both transmitters and receivers of these terminals which are able to cover the 0.4-6 GHz RF frequency range and various modulation schemes. An example of multi-band multi-mode direct conversion Si-RFIC transceiver is introduced which was developed for 0.4-6 GHz cognitive radio terminals.
