Abstract
This paper revisits alternative antenna parameters such as the mean effective gain, currently not widely used in industry. An investigation is done on the antenna performance parameters in several channel power models and accounting for various orientations. It is concluded that currently used TRP and TRS metrics are insufficient to describe accurately and completely the antenna performance with up to several dB of difference in the estimates. Using more realistic channel power models and MEG as a figure of merit, several typical antennas are analyzed with the problem extended to MIMO parameters. It is shown that such approach can account better for the variation observed, both in simulations and measurements.
