Abstract :
The performance of impedance matching networks for antenna applications consists of two parts: impedance mismatch and losses in the matching components. Traditionally, matching circuits have been optimized for best possible impedance match. However, in the presence of components with losses, this optimization will lead to suboptimal results. This paper shows how best performance is obtained by optimizing the total efficiency of the antenna. The choice of the correct optimization criteria can have a large effect on the antenna performance.
