Abstract :
The Material Exchange Format (MXF) is widely used for production and contribution within the broadcasting and professional media world. It can hold all relevant media formats including metadata and time code. Since its first standardisation at SMPTE in 2004 (now SMPTE 377-1-2009) it has been adopted by all major players. Now it is time to bring MXF from file-based-only to (real-time) streaming-capable using the High Bitrate Media Transport Protocol (HBRMT) currently in standardisation as SMPTE 2022-6.
