"Extracting Curvilinear Structures: A Differential Geometric Approach"
by Carsten Sterger
in Lecture Notes In Computer Science, Vol. 1064/1996, 1996, pp. 630 – 641.

An approaches to determination the center point of lines\´s width direction and edges of ellipses, from 2D images are proposed. For the center point of line\´s width direction, geometric models for line profiles are used to analyze their feature. From this analysis, algorithms to extract center point of line\´s width direction with sub pixel resolution are derived. To extract edges of ellipses, they are regarded as the center of lines in the gradient image of 2D images. Through the least-squares ellipse fitting, the center of ellipse is determinated. Finally give a conclusion about the center of gravity of the region, the method in this paper and canny filter.
