Abstract :
TCSC is a series FACTS devices which can control the line impedance, improve network stability, and damp the power system oscillations. Power System Stabilizer (PSS) like TCSC has an effective role to damp the low frequency oscillations. This paper focuses on designing of the state feedback controller for PSS and TCSC based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to analyze the effects of them on the stability of a Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) system. TCSC installed in transmission line while either of PSS and TCSC have state feedback controller. The coefficients of state feedback for TCSC and PSS have been optimized by PSO algorithm in order to damp the Low Frequency Oscillations (LFO). The effectiveness of the proposed controllers has been explained through eigenvalues analysis and some performance indices studies. The system with proposed controllers has been simulated for a special disturbance and the dynamic responses of generator have been presented with and without considered controllers. The simulation results showed that, TCSC based controller is superior to PSS based controller.
