Abstract
A novel compensation method for microstrip right-angled bend discontinuity is presented. Unlike conventional methods which deal with microstrip line itself, this method uses Defected Ground Structures (DGS) to accomplish the compensation task. In most practical cases better and more stable compensation is achieved. In other cases it provides the same degree of compensation as optimally mitred method. Shape, size and exact location of DGS are given. Additionally, special graphs are provided for further designs. A prototype circuit was designed and fabricated using presented design procedure and graphs. Simulation and measurement results are in good agreement.
