Abstract
Using the 2000 and 2005 CBERS images as data sources, combined with field survey, we interpreted the status of coastal land use in yantai, and analysed the change of the period. The results showed that the acreage of urban land, coastal beaches and mariculture zones had increased respectively 4030.10 hm2, 168.91 hm2 and 343.22 hm2. On the contrary, the acreage of vegetation cover and other land area decreased respectively 599.89 hm2 and 2966.47 hm2 during the five years. The main reason of causing the changes is the rapid urbanization of Yantai.
