Face detection using Shannon diversity index

Finding a face in an image is not a trivial task in computational vision. In this context, we have proposed in this work a methodology for automatic face detection. The main goal is to use Shannon Diversity Index, largely used in Ecology, as a human face texture descriptor and Support Vector Machine as classifier, so that we can evaluate the face detection performance. The initial results obtained here indicate a good perspective, since we have obtained a mean matching rate of 85%.
