Abstract
Visible-light communication (VLC) has been widely recognized as a promising candidate to realize a feasible deployment of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). The undesirable ambient-light noise due to daylight remains as a major impediment to the VLC system. In this paper, we propose a time-variant non-clear sky channel model to enable a more realistic prediction of the system performance. Next, we introduce a dual-receiving selective combining receiver for effective ambient-light rejection. Simulation results reveal the findings below: (1) a general 2-dB over-estimation of the background noise with the clear sky channel model; and (2) improvement in range and receivable information with the proposed receiver.
