Abstract :
A flywheel energy storage system (FESS) based on a permanent magnet synchronous motor is designed in this paper, in order to smooth the active power output of the wind farm, facilitate its connection to power grid and achieve the primary frequency control. The reference power of the FESS that used as the input of the system can be obtained by calculating of the target power and the active power of wind farm. The operation states of the motor change according to the change of reference power. And by controlling the grid side converter, the energy exchange between the grid and the storage system and unit factor operation are achieved. Space voltage vector control is adopted in both converters. Simulation model of the FESS is established in Simulink and the good control effect is proved by the simulation results. The process of charging and discharging are stable and the control objectives are achieved.
