Abstract :
This paper presents numerical simulation of a single drop impact onto a dry surface using combined Level Set-VOF method and a precise wetting model. This wetting model was base on the dynamic contact angle when drop spreading on the surface, which is a function of the instantaneous contact line velocity. The singularity at the moving contact line was analyzed and was removed by the wetting model. It is emphasized that the contact line velocity can not be approximated by the velocity of any material point, even when the point is very close to the contact line. This paper precisely captured the contact point and the contact line velocity. The wetting model with combined Level Set-VOF method was used to simulate the spreading of drops impacting a dry surface in low Weber number. The dimensionless spreading radius, the dimensionless height of drop and the drop shapes were compared with the experimental data. The numerical results agree well with the experimental data.
