Abstract :
The effect of minor Cerium addition on microstructure and ambient temperature mechanical properties of die-cast AM60 alloy was investigated in the text. The results show that new acicular phase Al11Ce3 is formed after that Ce is added to the AM60 alloy, α-Mg matrix phase morphology changes from dendritic crystal to equiaxed crystal gradually with the increase of Cerium content. The size and amount of Mg17Al12 (β) phase are decreased due to the Al11Ce3 formation, ambient temperature mechanical properties of die-cast AM60 alloy are greatly improved because of grain refinement.
