Abstract
In the South African cement industry, remaining competitive is predicated on managing energy use well. The electricity crisis directed the focus on energy management in the company, evidenced by the close management of EnPI´s. PPC is implementing a corporate energy management program that targets operational efficiency, alternative energy and energy cost stability, partnering with the Industrial Energy Efficiency Project of UNIDO to implement an Energy Management System (EnMS) based on ISO 50001. The article presents a strong argument for monitoring and data recording in facilitating a qualitative consumption analysis to drive the effective identification of energy savings options.
