  • Abstract
The current and projected supply-demand gap still shows a serious electricity shortage in South Africa over the next 3 years. There is an urgent need to accelerate energy efficiency and alternative energy projects to reduce the shortfall. Energy efficiency in the industrial and commercial sector is much needed as these are among the biggest contributors to the country´s supply. Education, communication, awareness and training are crucial functions that need to aid the energy efficiency programmes to ensure the maximum impact. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of mobilising the staff in the commercial and industrial sectors to successfully implement the energy management strategies. It is also to showcase the importance of collaborating with customers and other stakeholders to maximise the effectiveness of energy efficiency programmes.
