Abstract :
Nowadays the performance evaluation of wireless communication systems are based on computer simulations. However, the simulation of the whole wireless system becomes a challenging problem. Due to that reason, the whole simulation has been divided into two main levels which are called link level and system level simulations. Therefore, an interface is needed to connect the levels to each other, which is so called Link-to-System (L2S) level interface. This paper is presenting a comparison between two main Link-to-System (L2S) level interface models which are Exponential Effective SINR Mapping (EESM) model and Mutual Information Effective SINR Mapping (MIESM) model which are based on the Effective SINR Mapping concept. In addition, this paper investigates these models based on the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) system. For the case of Single Input Single Output (SISO), the results have shown that these models provide a good accuracy prediction for low modulation and coding schemes and it is decreasing for higher modulation and coding schemes. Furthermore, these models have been extended for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Alamouti scheme which have shown a good accuracy prediction.
