Abstract :
Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) has prepared the Fifth Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite (KOMPSAT-5) which is a high resolution X-band (9.66 GHz) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite. The KOMPSAT-5 will provide three kinds of imaging mode, Standard mode (ST-mode, 3 m, and 30 km swath), High resolution mode (HR-mode, 1 m, and 5 km swath), and Wide swath mode (WS-mode, 20 m, and 100 km swath) with incidence angle ranging from 20° to 55°. The revisit cycle of the KOMPSAT-5 is 28-day. A selective polarization channel can be provided among HH, HV, VH and W polarization mode. The characteristics of KOMPSAT-5 SAR are summarized at Table 1. The main concept of the mission is called as GOLDEN mission, which includes Geographic Information System (GIS), Ocean and Land management, Disaster and ENvironment monitoring. The product of KOMPSAT-5 will be useful to understand earth science and to manage our environment.
