Abstract :
The benefit of efficient knowledge management has been increasingly recognized by the construction industry globally and in China. However, there are very few studies on the current status of the knowledge management practice in Chinese construction industry. This research is based on a comprehensive survey carried out in many major cities in China, and it provides first-hand data on how tacit knowledge and knowledge management is understood by people working in the Chinese construction industry. It is found that there is a lack of understanding of tacit knowledge among Chinese construction professionals, and very few construction organisations have applied tacit knowledge management strategies in their daily operation. The benefit of using efficient technology support is not recognized. Based on the investigation outcome, proposals have been made on how knowledge sharing can be improved in the Chinese construction organisations.
