Abstract
Modern businesses and public services increasingly rely on high quality broadband network and network services; innovation in these areas will be critical for growth of a digital economy. Since many areas cannot receive cost-effective broadband via traditional networks, satellites are expected to play an important role in reducing the digital divide in rural and remote areas. This paper presents next generation satellite broadband technology enablers and describes their impact on network services and business models, as well as indicating challenges to realise them.
