Abstract :
UWB sensors and UWB radar technology face the problem of high attenuation if used in medical imaging or through wall imaging. The Pseudo-Noise(PN)-radar approach not only increases the dynamic range but also the system complexity and the measurement processing time. In this paper a polarity correlator with an additional algorithm to detect multiple targets for an ultra wideband PN-radar is proposed. The polarity correlator reduces the computational load of PN-radars by using 1-Bit quantized signals that can be processed in logic gates. A theoretical analysis is made to verify that no information loss occurs and that the high dynamic range is assured. Furthermore an algorithm for the detection of multiple targets with a polarity correlator is presented. By the implementation of a polarity correlator in an UWB-PN-radar it is possible to combine the advantages of high dynamic range and fine resolution with a correlation method that is fast to calculate, able to separate targets and enables real-time imaging.
