Abstract :
In this paper spatial and temporal communication pulse compression simulated for a time reversed communication link operating within a highly reverberant environment. The link deploys dipole antennas at 2.4 GHz under RF pulse excitation. The paper illustrates how aggressive quantisation and time sample decimation of the received time sampled pulse can be made. Thus demonstrating for the first time the viability of constructing a time reversed communications link that could operate at microwave frequencies in a propagation hostile environment using minimum complexity digital hardware. The results show that down to 2-bit sampling and x64 time series decimation that we can achieve minimum loss in spatial and temporal compression compared to time reversal of an un-quantised, no under sampled signal. Spatial confinement to within λ/2 distance around the pilot source is demonstrated for a highly reverberant environment. These results show that multi-access microwave communication systems based on time reversal in normally propagation hostile reverberant environments are viable using current hardware.
