Abstract
Nonlinear transmission lines (NLTL) are integrated with couplers, switches, and amplifiers, resulting in broadband source extensions. It is shown that these extensions possess attractive characteristics such as frequency scalability and quasi- linear power transfer. It is also shown that the large-signal driving-point impedance, and thus the source match of the extension is a strong function of the coupling coefficient of the couplers, as well as the reverse bias and RF input power of the NLTLs. A reverse-bias setting is found that reduces source-match variation with NLTL input power, while maximizing the output power of the source extension.
