Abstract
We proposed an effective enhancement of the indoor high-frequency radio waves in the deep geometrical shadow of a half-infinite obstacle by attaching a dielectric cylinder of an appropriate diameter to the edge of the obstacle. We have reported recently experimental results of a substantial enhancement of about 20dB for the vertically polarized electric fields of 5.6 GHz commercial wireless LAN frequency and also over the UWB. Due to the polarization dependence of the reflection and refraction on the dielectric surface, the diffraction and scattering by a vertically standing dielectric-cylinder-edge are considered to be complicated and different for the horizontally polarized electric fields from those for the vertically polarized ones. This paper investigates experimentally polarization dependence of the UWB diffraction by a dielectric-cylinder-edge, and shows that the horizontally polarized radio-waves are effectively enhanced in the deep geometrical shadow as well as the vertically polarized radio-waves.
