  • Abstract
A simplified technique and analytical expression is proposed to generate layout-efficient coplanar circular spiral inductors and to accurately predict their length, and hence performance, in multilayer multichip module technology. Using the new layout generation technique and developed closed-form expression, circular spiral inductors are designed and modelled with remarkably high performance and miniaturization using multilayer photoimageable thick-film technology. Measured results shows inductance values from 0.6 nH to 30 nH for one to 8 turns. The quality factor (Q) for small value inductors is better than 100. The 30nH inductor measures only 1.3mm × 1.3mm × 0.7mm and demonstrates the highest level of miniaturization in ceramic-based multilayer multichip module (MCM) technology.
