Abstract :
The application of wind generation system is widely used although interconnected to solid/redundant networks mostly. The application of wind generation to weak networks, on the other hand, is not common place. Research in this area slowly progresses and the need to understand the implications that wind generation will have on weak network protection schemes is becoming essential. This paper establishes some basic criteria with issues associated with relay protection on long/short, radial transmission and distribution systems, in particular with consideration for transient faults with the network. The use of directional protection relays can assist with general coordination and CFCT requirements and some ride-through capabilities.
