Abstract
Distance learning courses for engineering requires experiment lessons. On the other hand, various pressures such as economics, space or time for traditional on-site laboratory are increasingly emerging. The development of new technologies has spur red the creation of new modes for delivering engineering laboratories in education. In this paper, a web-based remote experiment system was presented as an experimental means of distance education or as a complement to the traditional experimental approach. An integrated framework of the remote system was constructed with remote simulated experiments and remote control type experiments. Natural to the separation of teachers and students in time and space, the requirements of remote experiment system were analyzed and interactions were devised among learning materials, students, teachers and experimental equipments in the process of teaching and learning. Finally, a web-based experimental platform was developed and implemented for the engineering course on machine design.
