In the power system, equipment accidents caused by power equipment heating defects occur frequently, which threats the security of power grid. It is timely to detect thermal defects in power equipment by the application of infrared temperature measurement, especially internal defects. This paper introduces the principle of infrared temperature measurement, diagnostic methods, analyzes the thermal fault of power equipment, puts forward several examples of equipment fault diagnosis. In practical applications, it can effectively prevent power equipment accidents and promote security and stability of power grid operation.
