Abstract :
The positioning performance of ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) wireless sensor networks is closely related to the geometric conditioning of the sensors. In UWB bistatic 2-Dimensional positioning, positioning area and precision are often affected by baseline. Considering the operating range of the sensors, this letter derives the optimal baseline corresponding to the maximal positioning area. First, the dual-coverage region of two identical sensors is introduced, which plays an important role on the positioning area. Then, positioning errors are investigated by simulation, and experiential expressions of the optimal baseline with respect to maximal operating range of the sensors are presented, which are significant for the instruction of bistatic sensor nodes configuration.
