Abstract :
Broadly, multicultural education expects to promote social justice and equity by school reform while in the narrow sense it supplies students with some kinds of knowledge about history, culture, contribution, etc. of different culture communities through school education in order to help students know of and identify with their own culture as well as appreciate and respect others. It also provides students in adverse cultural position with proper and compensating education, which results in the improvement on education equity for students from cultural communities of different races. It influences ethnic and racial education profoundly. However, a great number of scholars believe that multicultural education stresses cultural diversity excessively and covers the contradiction among social classes, at the same time, it is unfair because it emphasizes the peculiarity of "culture" but to neglect basic skills so that it will influence students\´ capacity of competition and adjustment in future. How to understand multicultural education correctly? The paper expounds the essence of which multicultural education promotes education equity through analysis of the practical ways of it.
