Abstract :
The architecture of commercial ultrasound (US) equipment dedicated to clinical use, is often “closed” and does not fit the requirements of flexibility, data access, programmability, which are necessary for the development of original approaches. In this paper, a novel platform, specifically designed for research purposes of different US laboratories, is presented. Its architecture, based on the TMS320C6455 DSP, provides all features needed for the development and test of novel investigation methods. As example of non standard application, a novel vector Doppler method involving adaptive steering of two US beams under DSP control, is discussed.
