Abstract :
The current paper describes the algorithms and implementation of wireless localization using radio signal strength in a wireless sensor network. The sensor network is implemented using Texas Instruments´ MSP430 microcontrollers and ChipCon 2500 RF transceivers in the 2.4 GHz range. The system attempts to localize a “blind” transmitter using a number of reference sensor nodes whose locations are known. The distance between the `blind´ sensor and the reference sensors is estimated based on the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). This measure is the basis of the localization algorithm. Four algorithms were implemented and compared.
