Abstract :
In this study, a novel Proportional-plus-Integral (PI) controller based on gravitational search algorithm (GSA) is suggested for automatic generation control (AGC) of the two area hydro thermal power system. The significant improvement of optimal transient performance is observed with the addition of a thyristor-controlled phase shifter (TCPS) in the tie-line. In order to investigate the performance, the proposed scheme is applied on multi-area AGC and comparisons amongst differential evolution (DE), genetic algorithm (GA) and GSA are presented. The results show that the optimal PI-controller along with TCPS parameters obtained by GSA improve the dynamic performance of the power system as compared to GA and DE.
