Abstract

This paper proposes a WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) five band antenna for tablet computer application. The proposed WWAN antenna that operates frequency bands for GSM850/900/1800/1900/UMTS applications consists of a directed-fed monopole and a coupled-fed monopole. The coupled monopole uses distributed inductor to control its operating modes, which combine with the modes obtained by the directed-fed monopole. The two monopoles occupied a portion of 75 mm × 11 mm × 0.8 mm is attached to a 200 mm × 260 mm system ground, which is about the size of commercial available 11-inch screen. Therefore, it can be easily applied in the tablet computer.
