Abstract :
In this paper, a new control strategy is proposed for a Series Compensator (SC) operating in the normal mode with the aim of fault current limiting in a microgrid that is a distribution system including DG units. After the fault detection, the proposed control strategy is activated to limit the fault current for a proper interruption of the breaker. To optimize the parameters of the SC controller, Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) is used. The proposed control strategy is modeled and simulated on a 2-bus distribution system and the simulation results are presented. The obtained results prove the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy for a dual functional SC.
