Abstract :
A new optical fiber birefringence measurement method based on polarization detection and wavelength scanning is presented. The polarization state changes of the dual-polarization mode component along the PMF are theoretically analyzed, and the dependence formula of the optical power output on the scanning wavelength and fiber birefringence is derived. The experimental device is built using a tunable narrow-band light source and polarization detection components, and the birefringence and its temperature characteristics of the panda fiber are tested. The experimental results are consistent with the data provided by manufacturers, that shows the method has the merits of easy-use and high accuracy.
