Abstract :
Two new SMPS (a Boost and a Buck- topology) based three phase cyclo-converters are presented. Instead of using 12-SCR model, in each cycle of the input AC signal the voltage is made unidirectional by employing full bridge rectifier.To provide output voltages at opposite polarities two SMPS topology based converters (one P and one N converter) are differentially connected across the load. This newly proposed cyclo-converter topology provides controllable AC voltage, both higher and lower than the input AC voltage at controllable frequencies, both higher and lower than the fundamental frequency with low input current THD and high input power factor at high efficiencies for a wide range of duty cycles and for wide range of switching frequencies. No additional control scheme is required to achieve the desired performances.
