Abstract
Most of region grids which have a lot of wind resource are not usually strong and the voltage stability issues caused by the wind farms which are integrated into grid transmission line extremely pop out. Due to research the voltage stability, this paper gives a detailed design of DFIG based variable speed wind turbine model on Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) platform. To improve the stability and output characteristic of wind farms, a STATCOM system is applied for stabilizing the voltage of wind farm. The characteristic of wind farm with STATCOM which is connected into grid is simulated and studied on the RTDS/RSCAD. Based on the simulation results, it is concluded that STATCOM is capable of suppressing fluctuation of power grid caused by the output power of double-fed wind power generation system, and stabilizing the grid voltage stability.
