  • Abstract
This paper presents a novel model of a circuit breaker coil based on electromechanical energy conversion principles which can be employed in circuit breaker condition monitoring. The proposed model takes into account the following: the coil core, springs, magnetic arm and coil. Based on this model, different parameters such as: Friction, the circuit breaker control circuit, inductance of the core and tolerances of the components can affect on coil current are considered. In the evaluation phase the effects of these parameters on coil current are studied and four functions are provided to detect the coil´s faults.
